We are Michael and Desirée Greene. In the picture to the right is Reginald & Barbara McGee. We are family, parents, grandparents, educators, and entrepreneurs. This is such a thrilling journey we are on as we build this amazing learner driven, multi-ethnic micro school for our son and the community. The excitement of re-imagining what’s possible drives us and inspires us!
My husband attended public school and I grew up going to Christian schools my entire life. We are a FAMILY of educators and several of us have taught in a variety of settings (public, Christian, private, and daycares). I mean it’s safe to say, we’ve seen a whole lot over the past 18 years.
We currently live in a great school district. Our son would have the best resources and support available to him and he would do “just fine”.
However, the more we thought about it, the more we wondered, should we settle for “fine”? Are we okay with him not learning in a Christian environment? What about those large class sizes? We wanted him to learn and grow at his own pace. With the academic and speech & language needs our son needed, we wanted him to receive the personalized instruction and support he needs.
What about learning TRUE history about his culture? Are we okay with the excessive homework and standardized testing that start in early elementary school? Will this approach adequately prepare our son for a successful, fulfilling life in the 21st century?
Then, we started to DREAM BIG! If we can’t find the best schooling option for our son and fits within our budget; then let’s create it. And that’s how Kingdom Seed Christian Academy was born.
