It is our…
Kingdom Seed Christian Academy is “student led.” This means young people build authentic relationships that form a tightly bound peer-led community, which is why we call our classrooms “communities”. They take ownership of their learning and peer relationships. Kingdom Seed All-Stars learn to think independently, take responsibility and embrace challenges. Students are encouraging, uplifting, supporting, and teaching one another as they learn through movement, exploration and hands-on activities. Communities replace traditional classrooms and create a space for students of varying ages to learn together.
We believe the learning experience is much richer when the Teacher offers insightful questions and facilitates hands-on learning.
At Kingdom Seed, children solve real world problems using real world tools and skills through hands-on adventures that promote curiosity and problem solving.
We believe students learn by doing. Whether it’s saving money for a new toy, building an animal habitat, playing a musical instrument, designing and painting a race car, or creating new versions of their favorite games, Kingdom Seed All-Stars are building real-life skills in the community every day.
We want all children to discover their passions and find God’s calling on their life; so that one day they will change the world. Our goal is to help them develop personal character traits such as honesty, hard work, responsibility, kindness, and empathy. Our desire is to create a self-paced learning environment that will foster responsibility, goal-setting, and teamwork. We want to empower them to thrive in a world that needs independent, motivated thinkers and learners.
What if children saw what greatness and success could look like from people who looks just like them? Here, at Kingdom Seed we want children to believe all things are possible regardless of their ethnicity. Throughout the day, your child will have the opportunity to learn about the amazing contributions of men and women, both past and present, of all ethnicities. We like to dream big over here at Kingdom Seed and we want your child to dream big too!
Kingdom Seed All-Stars have the chance to be in charge of their own learning. Instead of ONLY learning from a teacher, they teach themselves and learn from their peers. They don’t have to wait to be told what or how to do something.
In our community teachers inspire, ask questions, spark creativity, coach, guide, and demonstrate. Then, children make important decisions about their own learning and have tons of fun at the same time.
We desire to equip children to embrace challenges and see them as amazing opportunities to grow and get stronger.
Trying new things, learning something new, and embarking on new adventures is not always easy. There will be challenges along their All-Star Journey to greatness. But with all of us working together, your child can embrace these challenges and move forward towards their dreams.
Your child is special and we value his/her participation in our school. Having a small community allows for a “family-like” culture with trust and collaboration. Your child’s unique personality is taken into consideration when lessons are being created. It is essential to determine how your child learns, processes information, and communicates in an effort to grow and gain confidence.
As children continue on their learning journey, families will be continually updated. Learners will receive instruction in a group setting and also work independently. Kingdom Seed is not standards-centered, but student-centered. As the learning progression continues, learners will be assessed on his/her level throughout unit studies and with individualized learning goals.
All completed work and Learning Journey Checks will come home for record-keeping. Learners will receive a progress report in November, February, and May. We believe our children are more than a quantified measurement, therefore letter grades are not used as a means of progress. Rather, students are assessed through coaching, projects, daily work, and useful progress monitoring techniques.
For learners enrolled in our core academic classes (Reading, Writing and Math): at the beginning of the school year, we will do a FOUNDATIONS CHECK with your child.
This growth check will show the goals and skills your child can already do independently and the skills we should teach your child next.
Once the school year begins, there will be a variety of informal growth checks to monitor their progress.
While it’s tempting to tell learners what their goals should be, they will be more engaged when they have a say in their goals. Therefore, we will guide your child to set meaningful, ambitious goals by inviting them to reflect on their work, strengths, and where they can grow. We (your child and their community teacher) will decide on learning goals TOGETHER.
Once your child’s unique goals and skills are identified, it’s time teach effective strategies that will help them reach those goals quickly. We will teach your child clear, step-by-step strategies that match their personalized learning goals through 1-on-1 instruction and small group instruction.
While your child practices strategies; we will guide, coach, and give feedback to nudge them closer and closer to their learning goals. We also welcome feedback from learners too. One of the most powerful types of feedback is when you “Answer a Question with a Question”. This allows learners to take responsibility of their own learning, embrace challenges, and problem solve independently.
Our Skill Progressions help us identify goals, skills and teaching opportunities to measure growth and mastery over time. We use these learning progressions to build on your child’s strengths by noticing within the goal what your child can currently do and looking ahead on the progression to what’s next. Also, we can choose appropriate strategies based on the next skill your child needs to practice. Lastly, we can monitor progress within a goal to choose next steps or to decide to move on to a new goal.
Also, included in this online portal is FREE access to Desiree’s reading and writing games, activities, and lesson plans. Plus, photos of learning happening throughout the month, special events and important announcements.
